The Advanced Placement Examination, also known as the AP Exam, is administered by The College Board every May. More than 30 AP examinations are offered to students throughout the United States and 60 countries around the world. You can take an exam in the arts, English, history & social sciences, math & computer science, sciences, or world languages & cultures. To prepare for the AP examinations, students can take AP classes that correspond to the correct examinations. AP classes are designed to be introductory college level courses.

There are many benefits of taking AP classes:
1) Earn academic credits for college classes. The AP examinations are scored on a scale from 1-5. In most colleges, only the scores of 4 and 5 are given college credits.
• 1= not qualified for college credits
• 2= not qualified for college credits
• 3= possible to earn college credits
• 4= well qualified to earn college credits
• 5= extremely well qualified to earn college credits

2) Experience the college academic setting. By taking AP classes, you can have a taste of what college is like. Most AP classes are rigorous (more work than the typical US high school class).

3) Save money on college tuition. College classes are expensive. Some colleges will accept AP credits as having fulfilled requirements. By earning college credits for college level classes, you will save a few thousand dollars here and there for the different AP credits that you earned.

4) Impress college admissions officers. AP classes are rigorous courses. By taking AP classes, you are telling colleges that you have the ability to work hard and that you can take on college level work.
