Halloween

Imagine going door to door to houses filled with people you’ve never met and asking them for candy, seems like a dangerous thing to do doesn’t it? But on Halloween, it’s perfectly acceptable. In fact, pretty much everyone is doing it. As a child, Halloween was a time for kids to dress up and be anything that they wanted; a princess, a firefighter, a power ranger, the possibilities were endless. The excitement of getting ready and going out for a night of free candy and fun with friends was something that every kid looked forward to in the Fall season.

A popular attraction that many teenagers and young adults attend during Halloween is going to a haunted something with a group of their friends or significant other. There are haunted houses, haunted forests, haunted hospitals, and much more. In these haunted places, there are always people dressed up in costumes with the intent to scare. Haunted houses are not for the faint of heart; the thrill, excitement and heart-stopping fear is not something that everyone can handle.

Pumpkin carving is another big tradition in the preparation for Halloween. During the month of October, sometimes even beginning in September, grocery stores will carry pumpkins and families will buy them to carve. Generically they are carved to be scary faces. The seeds are taken out, the inside is hollowed, and a candle is placed inside. They are usually placed on the front porch of houses and give a Halloween feel to any house.

The start of Fall marks the beginning of a month long celebration that leads up to the night of Halloween. When you walk through stores, offices, schools, all the decorations are filled with pumpkins, fall leaves, and scarecrows; Halloween themed activities dominate the month of October. As a trademark American holiday, Halloween is one of the most exciting holidays for all ages.
